Developing a recovery house can be an overwhelming venture. These courses explore different aspects to consider when you start planning recovery housing development. An Introduction to the 12-Steps as a Recovery Pathway: This course provides a brief overview of the 12-steps' history and how it is used as a recovery pathway. The course is not intended to promote any particular fellowship or recovery pathway, nor is it intended as a substitute for individual participation. Why Evaluation Matters: This course shows the importance of collecting data on a rural recovery house and how it can improve your house. Find out why evaluation matters to your rural recovery house, what data is the most valuable to collect, and how to evaluate and use the data you secure. Coordinating Care: Treatment Plans: This course will review how a rural recovery house can implement treatment plans for residents. While traditionally a part of clinical settings, rural recovery houses can benefit from establishing goals with residents based on their needs. How to Solve Funding Problems with LIHTC: Some folks want to build larger recovery housing units. Recovery Residences - How We Know They Work
Many in the recovery field feel intuitively that recovery residences, structured sober living, and similar programs aid a person’s recovery from Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Unfortunately, there has been scant research to measure outcomes and explore the questions around recovery residences: What evidence do we have that supports our ideas that recovery housing helps recovery? What types of programs have the most success? The least? What does the data tell us that may help develop evidence-based programs? Dr. Corey Vilsaint, a community research psychologist fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, and a principal investigator at the Recovery Research Institute and Center for Addiction Medicine, answers these questions and more in this course.

This training focuses on understanding a Sponsor’s role and utilizing an Engagement agreement to establish the proper expectations and communication with your Sponsor. Created in March of 2025, this course discusses breaches of confidentiality in a recovery residence can lead to stress, anxiety, and a sense of betrayal, which may trigger a return to use. Maintaining confidentiality helps create a supportive and secure environment conducive to long-term recovery. Protecting confidentiality ensures a safe, supportive, and legally compliant environment where individuals can focus on their recovery without fear of exposure or judgment.
