“We were overwhelmed,” says Fay Russom, Executive Director of Hardin County Jesus Cares, a Savannah, Tennessee nonprofit dedicated to helping rural families in crisis. “We’ve always had a heart for people who are homeless and had been wanting to provide recovery housing for years, but none of us had any experience.

“Isolation is the enemy, community is the answer,” says Don Roberts. “That’s why I’m so emotional about the way our community has come together. Six years ago we had nothing here but AA. Now, in addition to lots of great programs, we have the most crucial piece: a safe, sober living space where people can develop the skills to meet life on its own terms.”
